OZONE DEPLETION

Ozone depletion the slow and steady decline of about 4% per decade in the volume of the ozone layer in the earth’s stratosphere. Decrease in the stratospheric ozone over earth’s polar region  results in the ozone depletion.

The reasons for ozone depletion are excess pollution, use of CFC. This has resulted in the formation of ozone hole in the northern region, reported in 1956.

This has resulted in direct penetration of the U.V rays in the earth’s atmosphere which is very harmful resulting in basal and squamous cell carcinoma , malignent malinoma , skin cancer, cortical cataracts , effects on the crop like rice that depend on cyano bacteria which are sensitive to the u.v light.
The ozone depletion can be prevented prohibiting use of causal gases like CFC , setting limits for smoke causing air pollution , using substitutes for pollution causing agents , use of CNG  driven vehicles and maximum use of bio-pesticides and bio-fertilizers.
