Chatterjee to chair HPL board meeting
Purnendu Chatterjee, vicechairman of Haldia Petrochemicals Ltd (HPL), will chair the company's board meeting on Monday, but is unlikely to be appointed chairman immediately.
HPL is a joint venture between the West Bengal government and the Chatterjee Group. The state government and Chatterjee's Chatterjee Group have for years been sparring over the ownership and control of HPL. The Supreme Court concluded hearing over the dispute last year, but is yet to pass judgment.
State FMs panel to pick chairman today
An empowered committee of state finance ministers is meeting on Monday to select a new chairman, in a move that could give a push to the much delayed goods and services tax (GST) regime.
The post of chairman has been lying vacant since West Bengal finance minister Asim Dasgupta lost in assembly elections in May. Sushil Modi, Bihar's deputy chief minister, was the top contender for the post but backed out citing state commitments.
Finance ministry officials said Modi may be asked to reconsider his decision as he is considered the most appropriate candidate.
